Best O Level Chemistry Books in Pakistan: Which One Should You Buy?
Chemistry is the O Level subject where the right book makes the biggest difference. The syllabus is not especially long, but it is unforgiving: organic chemistry, mole calculations and electrolysis all punish a student who has only read about them and never worked through enough problems.
These are the three books Pakistani students actually use, and what each one is good for.

Which One Should You Buy?
Hodder is the main textbook. It explains the chemistry properly, in clear language, with good diagrams and worked examples. If you are buying one book and want it to carry you through the whole syllabus, buy this one.
Chemistry Matters is the Singapore book, and its strength is questions. Far more practice problems, and harder ones, than you will find in a standard textbook. Most Lahore tuition teachers who push students toward an A* use this as the question bank.
All About Chemistry is the condensed option β useful for revision and for a student who needs the syllabus restated briefly rather than taught again.
The combination that works for most students is simple: Hodder to learn it, Chemistry Matters to drill it.
Where O Level Chemistry Marks Are Lost
β’ Moles. If mole calculations are not automatic by the end of the first year, everything built on them collapses. Drill them early.
β’ Organic chemistry. Usually left to the end and then rushed. Start it before the final term.
β’ Paper 1 wording. Multiple choice punishes careless reading more than weak chemistry.
β’ Qualitative analysis. The tests for ions are pure memory and pure marks. Learn the table cold.
β’ Practical paper. Written from a syllabus, not from lab experience. Past papers are the only preparation that works.
