FCPS Gynae and Obs Books: Past Papers, Recalls and TOACS

Gynae/Obs is one of the most competitive FCPS specialties in Pakistan, and candidates in it have worked out something useful: the recalls matter more than the textbooks.

Part 1: SK Pearls and the Golden Files

The book most Gynae/Obs candidates end up with is SK Pearls of Gynae/Obs (SK-Pink) by Dr. Salahuddin Kamal — known simply as "SK Pink". It compiles the FCPS-1 Gynae/Obs golden files into one book, organised by topic.

The current 8th edition carries the files up to August 2025. That date is the whole argument for buying the current edition rather than borrowing an older copy: recent papers repeat most often, so an edition that stops short has dropped the highest-yield pages.

Alongside it, the general Part 1 recall volumes — the numbered SK series and SK Golden — cover the basic sciences every specialty is tested on.

Part 2 and IMM: Recalls, Long Cases and TOACS

TOACS is where Gynae/Obs candidates most often lose marks they actually know. The stations are short, scored against a checklist, and heavy on communication — counselling, consent, breaking bad news. Reading about them is not preparation; rehearsing them against a timer is.

How to Work Through the Recalls

• Attempt the question before looking at the answer. Every time
• Go topic by topic — finish obstetrics, then gynaecology, then the basic sciences
• Keep a list of what you got wrong and revisit it weekly
• Learn the concept, not the option. CPSP rewords questions between sittings
• Do the most recent papers twice, and do them last so they are fresh
• For Part 2, practise stations aloud with a colleague playing examiner
